Angular Displacement Module Mechanic
Engineering Equipments / Mechanics / Measurement & Metrology Laborator
Angular Displacement
This lab explores angular displacement measurements using a potentiometer and an incremental encoder. Students will calibrate both sensors for accurately measuring angular displacements, and will examine decoding algorithms for encoders.
Learning Objectives:
After completing this lab, students will be able to:
■ Understand the voltage dividing properties of a potentiometer.
■ Calibrate the output of a potentiometer in terms of angular displacement.
■ Determine an encoder's pulses-per-revolution.
■ Examine non-quadrature, X2, and X4 decoding.
■ Calibrate the output of an encoder in terms of angular displacement.
■ Observe the effect of low sampling on the accuracy of measured data.
Required Skills:
■ Physics I or equivalent.
■ Calculus I or equivalent.
■ Basic LabVIEW Proficiency.
