Urticaria VR Nursing Simulation
The virtual patient presents with itchy, raised wheals after a new food or medication. The learner assesses the extent, checks for signs of airway involvement, identifies the likely trigger from the history, administers the prescribed antihistamine, and teaches the patient how to recognise progression to anaphylaxis.
Learning objectives
By the end of this experience the learner can:
- Differentiate uncomplicated urticaria from early anaphylaxis.
- Take a focused allergy history to identify the trigger.
- Administer and document antihistamine treatment.
- Educate the patient on warning signs and avoidance.

Procedure steps
- Inspect the skin and check the airway and breathing.
- Take the history of foods, medications and exposures.
- Give the prescribed antihistamine and apply symptomatic care.
- Reassess after 30 minutes for spread or systemic signs.
- Document and educate the patient before discharge.
Assessment
The learner must correctly distinguish urticaria from anaphylaxis and complete the education checklist.
Equipment and setting
Standalone VR headset with hand controllers, full-scale virtual patient and equipment, instructor screen mirroring, Arabic and English interface, offline operation on the campus network.
