Laboratory Safety & Clean Air Equipment

Containment and clean-air equipment that protects people, samples and the environment when working with microorganisms, chemicals and sterile cultures.

Laboratory Safety & Clean Air Equipment

Protecting people, samples and results

Laboratory safety and clean air equipment controls airflow to keep hazards contained and work areas clean. Class II A2 biological safety cabinets protect the operator, the sample and the room when handling pathogens and cell cultures. Chemical fume hoods exhaust vapours from acids, solvents and digestion. Laminar flow clean benches provide HEPA-filtered air for sterile work such as media preparation and plant tissue culture, while air showers and mobile air purifiers reduce particles entering or circulating in clean areas. Diagnostic, microbiology, plant protection, veterinary, food and university laboratories rely on them. ASFAN supplies, installs and supports this equipment and helps specify complete laboratories.

Working safely with pathogens

Biological safety cabinets contain aerosols when plant, animal and foodborne pathogens are cultured or tested, protecting staff and preventing release into the wider environment.

Chemical exposure control

Fume hoods draw acid fumes and solvent vapours away from the operator during digestion, extraction and reagent preparation, supporting a safer working atmosphere.

Sterile culture work

Laminar flow benches deliver clean air over the work surface, reducing contamination in plant tissue culture, media preparation and microbiological plating.

Cleaner controlled areas

Air showers remove dust from clothing at the entrance to clean areas, and mobile purifiers improve local air cleanliness in sterile rooms and food production zones.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a laminar flow bench the same as a biological safety cabinet?

No. A laminar flow bench protects only the sample, blowing clean air towards the operator. A Class II biological safety cabinet protects the operator, the sample and the environment, and is required when handling infectious material.

What does Class II A2 mean?

It is a common biological safety cabinet type in which about 70 percent of the air is exhausted through a HEPA filter and 30 percent recirculated, with an inward airflow at the front opening for operator protection.

Do fume hoods need external ducting?

The chemical fume hood offered is ducted and is supplied with an exhaust pipe and elbow. The exhaust route to outside the building should be planned with the laboratory layout before installation.
