Intradermal Injection VR Nursing Simulation
Used for tuberculin and allergy testing, the intradermal route requires a shallow 5° to 15° insertion into the dermis of the inner forearm and the formation of a visible wheal. The learner practises the angle, the small volume and the correct way to read the site later.
Learning objectives
By the end of this experience the learner can:
- Select and prepare an intradermal site on the inner forearm.
- Insert bevel up at 5° to 15° just under the epidermis.
- Inject 0.1 mL to raise a wheal without massaging the site.
- Mark and schedule the site for reading.

Procedure steps
- Prepare a tuberculin syringe with a 26 to 27 G needle.
- Stretch the forearm skin and insert the bevel just below the surface.
- Inject slowly until a pale wheal appears.
- Withdraw without pressure, circle the site and record the time.
- Instruct the patient on site care and the reading appointment.
Assessment
Wheal formation, depth of insertion and volume delivered are checked automatically.
Equipment and setting
Standalone VR headset with hand controllers, full-scale virtual patient and equipment, instructor screen mirroring, Arabic and English interface, offline operation on the campus network.
