Learning objectives

By the end of this experience the learner can:

  • Explain the difference between pressure-controlled and volume-controlled modes.
  • Set inspiratory pressure, PEEP, rate and I:E ratio.
  • Recognise falling tidal volume as a sign of reduced compliance.
  • Use blood gas results to adjust ventilation.

Project Video

Watch the Pressure Mode experience recorded inside the ASFAN VR nursing simulator.

Procedure steps

  1. Review the patient's condition and current settings.
  2. Adjust pressure and PEEP as prescribed and observe the delivered volume.
  3. Respond to a high-pressure or low-volume alarm.
  4. Interpret the blood gas and change the rate or pressure accordingly.
  5. Document the settings and the patient's response.

Assessment

Setting choices and alarm responses are compared with the expected clinical decisions.

Equipment and setting

Standalone VR headset with hand controllers, full-scale virtual patient and equipment, instructor screen mirroring, Arabic and English interface, offline operation on the campus network.

Frequently asked

Pressure Mode FAQ

What educators ask about this scenario.

What will I practise in the Pressure Mode scenario?

The learner manages a patient on pressure-controlled ventilation, sets the inspiratory pressure, PEEP, rate and inspiratory time, watches how tidal volume changes with lung compliance, and interprets the arterial blood gas result to adjust the settings.

How is performance assessed?

Setting choices and alarm responses are compared with the expected clinical decisions.

Can I watch the scenario before booking a demo?

Yes, the demonstration video on this page is recorded inside the simulator. Contact ASFAN for a live demo on your own headsets.
