Frequently Asked Questions

Which equipment does a basic seed testing laboratory need?

A typical core set includes a sample divider, a purity workbench, test sieves, a seed counter, a moisture meter, a balance and a germination incubator. X-ray imaging and seed blowers are added as the workload and seed species grow.

What does a seed X-ray system show?

It shows the internal structure of each seed, so analysts can see whether the embryo and storage tissue are fully developed and detect cracks, hollow seed or insect damage before germination testing or storage.

Why are different seed dividers offered?

Each suits different seed types and lab routines. Riffle and Boerner dividers are robust and need no power, while centrifugal dividers work quickly with free-flowing seed. Many laboratories keep more than one type.
