Upper Leg Length VR Nursing Simulation
The learner positions the seated virtual patient, locates the inguinal crease and the top of the patella, and measures upper leg length with an anthropometer while keeping the instrument parallel to the femur.
Learning objectives
By the end of this experience the learner can:
- Locate the anatomical landmarks for upper leg length: from the inguinal crease to the proximal border of the patella with the knee flexed at 90°.
- Use the sliding caliper / anthropometer correctly and read it to the required precision.
- Position the patient correctly and repeat the measurement to confirm consistency.
- Record the value with the side measured and compare it with reference ranges.

Procedure steps
- Explain the measurement to the virtual patient and position them as required.
- Palpate and mark the landmarks (from the inguinal crease to the proximal border of the patella with the knee flexed at 90°).
- Apply the sliding caliper / anthropometer as demonstrated and take the reading.
- Repeat the measurement; if the two readings differ beyond the tolerance, take a third.
- Record the mean value and the instrument used.
Assessment
Landmark accuracy, instrument placement and the difference between the learner's reading and the reference value are checked automatically, with a tolerance set by the instructor.
